Brahma – Illumines Vishwamitra & Vashishta

Vashishta meditated under water for twelve years fully,
He wanted to be the most powerful person spiritually, 
His dearest disciple was Harishchandra unquestionably,
 Who when he emerged was in serious trouble certainly.

 Sage Vishwamitra came to Harishchandra’s expectantly,
 Bade some work which Harishchandra promised clearly,
 As Harishchandra could not fulfil his promises completely,
 Relinquished his kingdom, sold his wife and child finally.

 When Vashishta saw Harishchandra suffering painfully,
 Rishi Vashishta cursed Vishwamitra to be a bird angrily,
 Rishi Vishwamitra cursed back Vashishta reportedly, 
‘You too shall be converted a bird instantaneously!’

Both even as huge birds, fought unrelentingly,
 Flapping wings, destroyed everything uncaringly,
 Creation was smashed as they fought ruthlessly,
 Lord Brahma seeing this ruin intervened finally.

 Clipped their wings so they wouldn’t fly damagingly,
 Yet they still continued to fight unheedingly,
 Their fury showed no signs of abating – uncaringly,
 Lord Brahma observed them and thought eventually:

 What I have done is not enough – they fight fiercely,
 They are still bent on destroying each other clearly,
 I see my entire creation will be destroyed finally,
 I have to do something more to control them fully.

 He transformed them as humans addressing angrily,
 ‘Are you not ashamed? You cursed and fight ruthlessly, 
Destroying the world for your personal hostility,
 You shall remain as two human beings ordinary’.

 ‘Even humans do not fight as you fought uncaringly,
 I am not asking you to be saints or someone holy,
 Just become decent human beings caring tenderly.’
 Thus Brahma tried to illuminate these sages lastly. 

They embraced, promised to desist from fighting finally,
 But their truce did not last – resumed fighting eventually,
 Most people believe Vashishta had higher wisdom truly,
 Both were great – attained enlightenment and Divinity.
